Receiving $15 million can place someone in a position of complete financial freedom, allowing them to save, invest, or live off passive income, as long as the money is managed wisely.

However, money does not always buy everything. This was the case for an 86-year-old farmer from Pennsylvania who turned down offers from Silicon Valley totaling that amount. The companies wanted to acquire his land to develop an artificial intelligence data center.

Specifically, he was offered about $60,000 per acre, a figure that exceeded $15 million for his 261 acres of land. In an interview with Fox, he explained why he rejected such a generous offer. The reason is tied to a property that has been in his life for more than 80 years.

“It was my life. This is a special situation here with my family… It really wasn’t so much the economic end of it. I just didn’t want to see these two farms destroyed.”

Instead, the farmer chose to transfer his land to Lancaster Farmland Trust, a nonprofit organization based in Pennsylvania dedicated to the permanent preservation of farmland.

The deal was finalized for just under $2 million, specifically $1.9 million. This ensured that the land would never be used for anything other than agriculture.

“My friends of mine here are very happy with what I’ve done,” said the octogenarian farmer, noting that his land will remain untouched and will not be repurposed for new artificial intelligence data centers.
