An expert’s warning with the little-known hiding place of crocodiles: “I found this in Tabasco”

Andre Rocha, who has a YouTube account dedicated to crocs, managed to film a unique view of crocodiles in hiding spots: burrowed underfoot.

Rocha recorded the moment. “I came across this while crocodiling in Tabasco and I wanted to share it with you,” he said.

“When you are visiting areas where crocodiles are known to live, don’t only pay attention to the water,” he said. “They can dig and create tunnels that connect to where they live both in and out of the water and are almost invisible to the eye.”

Usually, crocodiles hide in burrows during the night making the find a rare one.

Locals were surprised by the revelation of the new hiding spot.

“They protect themselves from the heat, they dig holes in lagoons and can go very deep,” a local explained.

“I’ve seen them entering and leaving tree trunks and caves in dried-up bodies of water,’ said a third.

Where do crocodiles usually hide?

Crocodiles usually hide in various locations such as water bodies, riverbanks, swamps, and dense vegetation along the water’s edge. They are known to conceal themselves underwater with only their eyes and nostrils visible, making them excellent ambush predators.

Crocodiles can also hide in burrows or caves near the water for shelter and protection. Their ability to blend into their surroundings and remain motionless for extended periods allows them to surprise their prey effectively.
