As the summer season approaches, the anticipation of vacations and holidays fills the air. With travel plans on the horizon, finding the best deals on airline tickets is the top priority for many.

According to industry experts, the ideal time to book flights is typically between three weeks and four months before your desired travel date. Airlines tend to release their cheapest fares during this period, allowing savvy travelers to snag the most attractive deals.

Additionally, Tuesdays and Wednesdays have been found to have the cheapest flights. CheapAir.com found that these days are, on average, $99 and $102 cheaper respectively. Of course this also means taking more holiday off work, which many can’t do.

One of the most effective strategies for finding cheap flights is to remain flexible with your travel dates and destinations. By being open to adjusting your plans, you can significantly increase your chances of securing a bargain.

Keeping your summer trip costs down

The timing of your booking can also be influenced by seasonal factors. For summer travel, experts recommend booking between January and April to secure the best deals. Conversely, if you’re planning a winter getaway, aim to book between August and October for optimal savings.

Avoid booking flights within two weeks of your travel date, as prices to skyrocket during this “last-minute” window. Additionally, holidays and peak travel seasons, such as summer and winter breaks, often result in higher fares due to increased demand. Often this is unavoidable, and if you are reading this then perhaps it is a necessity.

But don’t fret! Websites like Google Flights and Skyscanner offer aggregated flight prices across all companies. You don’t need to scour Delta and then move on to the next airline; these sites do it for you. With just weeks to go, these are definitely your best best for cheap(ish) flights.
