HOLIDAY
Are post offices open and will mail be delivered on 2023 Christmas Eve and Day?
A look at the US Postal Service’s hours this holiday season... Christmas Eve and Christmas Day...
This year, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fall on Sunday and Monday, meaning there will be slight disruption to mail delivery over the holidays. So far, USPS has delivered over ten million packages, with the average delivery time spanning 2.6 days.
Will the post office be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas?
All post offices are closed on Sundays year-round, and USPS delivers no mail, and Christmas Eve will be no different. On Monday, 25 December, no mail will be delivered, and all post offices will be closed in observance of Christmas, a public holiday.
In preparation for the holidays, some post offices may have extended hours; however, a few post offices may only be open part-time on Saturday, December 23. Customers are always encouraged to verify the operating hours with their local post office.
What about New Year’s Day?
Since New Year’s Day also falls on a Monday, no one should expect their first USPS delivery to arrive until Tuesday, 2 January. All post offices will be closed and will reopen on the first Tuesday of 2024.
