Are post offices open and will mail be delivered on Christmas Eve and Day 2024?

Christmas is a time for giving, as well as receiving. For many people, that means sending cards, letter and gifts to loved ones across the country, making it the busiest time of the year for postal services and delivery companies.

Before you make a last-minute trip to the post office, or waste time waiting for one final present to arrive, here’s everything you need to know about opening times and delivery dates for Christmas 2024...

Is the post office open on Christmas Eve?

In the United States all local post offices and related services will be open on Tuesday, December 24 for Christmas Eve 2024. In some locations the opening hours may be different so make sure to check with your local post office for exact times.

Mail will be delivered as usual on Christmas Eve and the blue USPS collection boxes will be fully operational.

Things are different on Christmas Day with all federal workers getting the day off for the holiday. All Post Office locations and services will halt on December 25, with no mail delivered or collected from the blue USPS collection boxes.

Is mail delivered on December 26?

After the day off on December 25, things start to return to normal the following day. All post office locations will reopen as usual and mail delivery services will resume on Thursday, December 26.

The USPS Priority Mail Express service will return in certain locations but they may be an extra fee for those deliveries. As is the case on Christmas Eve, make sure to check exact opening times for your nearest location before making the trip out.
