A man went for a walk in the woods and stumbled upon a 2,700-year-old lethal treasure: It was still waiting for its owner, stuck straight up in the ground

That is precisely what happened to a man walking through a forest with a metal detector, who uncovered an ancient 2,700-year-old sword. The most surprising part? The sword was stuck vertically straight into the ground.

A metal detector enthusiast was walking through the Gdańsk forest district in Poland when he picked up a signal buried beneath the dirt. Thrust into the soil right where he was standing, he found a late Bronze Age bronze sword estimated to be around 2,700 years old.

Archaeologists retrieved the artifact following the discovery

Researchers believe the blade dates back to between 900 and 700 B.C. The sword’s blade remains remarkably well-preserved, and archaeologists stepped in to collect the artifact after the hobbyist reported the find to local heritage authorities. Officials confirmed that the weapon will undergo detailed analysis before going on display in a museum.
