Among the favorites to win in the ‘Best Actor’ category is Austin Butler for his impeccable performance as the King of Rock and Roll in the biopic of ‘Elvis’. The 31-year-old Californian is competing for the award with Brendan Fraser for ‘The Whale,’ Colin Farrell for ’The Banshees of Inisherin’, Paul Mescal for ‘Aftersun’ and Bill Nighy for ‘Living’.
From Disney child star to Elvis stardom
If you were born in the late 90′s, the face of Austin Butler is probably familiar to you. He may have ended up as the King but his acting career began on the small screen at the age of thirteen with appearances in children’s series on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. A young Butler appeared on Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, Jonas, Zoey 101 and iCarly, amongst other shows.
Butler made his breakthrough to the big screen in 2009 with the 20th Century Fox family film ‘Aliens in the Attic’. Later he appeared in Disney’s Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure and he continued with a series of roles in teen dramas.
He starred in Life Unexpected, CSI: New York, Switched at Birth, Are You There, Chelsea?, The Bling Ring, The Carrie Diaries, Arrow, The Shannara Chronicles and Masters of the Air.
Once he made the transition to the big screen he appeared in My Uncle Rafael, Life Life in Space Space, The Intruders, Yoga Hosers, Dude4, The Dead Don’t Die and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. However it was his portrayal of Elvis Presley, one of the most instantly recognisable figures of all time, that has taken him to the very top of his profession.
This year you can catch Butler in Dune: Part 2 and The Bikeriders.
