Update:

Sending a letter through the US Postal Service will cost you a bit more after the agency raised prices once again, the sixth time since 2020, on 13 July. In an April press release about the suggested postage increases, USPS said that the “price adjustments are needed to achieve the financial stability sought by the organization’s Delivering for America 10-year plan.”

Despite the price hike, USPS says that its service is still “among the most affordable in the world.” Here’s what it will cost you from now on to mail letters, birthday cards, postcards and more.

New USPS postage prices

The USPS says that it serves nearly 169 million addresses nationwide and delivers more mail than any other postal service in the world. It calculates that the new price increases represent roughly a 7.4 percent hike. On the other hand, the agency is reducing how much it charges for postal insurance when mailing an item by 12 percent.

Here are the new prices that you will pay for postage:

ProductCurrent pricesPlanned prices
Letters (1 ounce)73 cents78 cents
Letters (metered 1 ounce)69 cents74 cents
Domestic postcards56 cents61 cents
International postcards$1.65$1.70
International letter (1 ounce)$1.65$1.70

Can you still use previously purchased Forever Stamps?

Yes, you can. Despite the price increase for Forever Stamps jumping a nickel to 78 cents, those that you purchased before this recent price increase will still be valid as they can be used at any time in the future, regardless of posterior changes in the cost of postage.
