Thanksgiving
Bank opening hours in the USA on Thanksgiving 2024: Bank of America, Citi, Wells Fargo…
Thursday November 28 is a time for celebrations and giving thanks, but maybe you need to visit your bank manager beforehand.
The year is coming to an end, but there are still two holidays left on the calendar. Thursday, November 28, marks Thanksgiving Day, while the final holiday of the year will be Christmas Day on December 25.
As one of the 11 official federal holidays, Thanksgiving requires government institutions to close, giving their employees the right to paid time off. Schools, stock markets, post offices, and libraries will also be closed. But what about banks? Here are the operating hours for Thanksgiving Day.
Thanksgiving hours for Bank of America, Wells Fargo and more…
While only government institutions are legally required to close on holidays, other state and private entities—such as businesses, schools, post offices, supermarkets, and banks—can decide whether to operate on these days.
Private banks have the option to open during holidays but most choose to close, as they follow the Federal Reserve holiday calendar. Therefore, the majority of banks will be closed this Thursday, November 28, for Thanksgiving Day. This includes major banks such as Bank of America, BBVA, Citi, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan, and Goldman Sachs, as well as most financial institutions.
It’s recommended to check with your local branch or visit your bank’s website before planning a visit or seeking additional information. Although banks will be closed, online banking services and ATMs will remain operational.
Banks will be closed on Christmas Day
The final holiday of the year is Christmas Day, celebrated on December 25. Banks will also be closed on this day, so it’s advisable to plan ahead for any in-person banking needs. Looking ahead to 2025, banks will close on 11 different dates.
Of the 11 official federal holidays recognized by the U.S. government, some are observed on specific dates, while others vary each year. Additionally, when a holiday falls on a weekend, it is observed either before or after the actual date: if it falls on a Saturday, it is observed on the preceding Friday, and if it falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is observed as a holiday.
Here are the official federal holiday dates for the United States in 2025, as outlined by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM):
