President of the United States, Joe Biden, has admitted that being diagnosed with a serious medical condition would force him to drop out of the presidential race, he admitted in a recent interview.

The current leader of the States, at 81-years-old, has seen many questions raised about his health and whether or not he is fit enough to run what is arguably the most powerful country in the world.

Mr. Biden has said on multiple occasions that he is indeed in good shape, with Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the White House physician, writing in February that the President is “a healthy, active, robust, 81-year-old male who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the presidency.”

Despite this healthy diagnosis, a poor debate performance against Donald Trump which was broadcast live on TV raised concerns about his health. Given the situation, Mr. Biden was asked in a recent interview what it would take for him to step down:

If I had some medical condition that emerged”, the President said, “if somebody, if doctors came to me and said, you got this problem and that problem.”

The New York Times, in their report on the quotes, highlight that this is just a new explanation in a series of answers to the same question, with Mr. Biden also claiming that he would step down if “the Lord Almighty” told him to, as well as if “aides came to him with proof that he could never win”.

In the interview with Ed Gordon of BET, the President also admitted that he only expected to serve a single term at the top, saying “you may remember Ed, I said I was going to be a transitional candidate, and I thought I would be able to move on from this and pass it on to somebody else. But I didn’t anticipate things getting so, so, so divided. And quite frankly, I think the only thing age brings is a little bit of wisdom.”

“I think I’ve demonstrated that I know how to get things done for the country in spite of the fact that we were told we couldn’t get it done,” Mr. Biden added in his answer to Gordon. “But there’s more to do, and I’m reluctant to walk away from that.”
