Big Lots adds more than 40 stores to the list of closures: Location of the 344 stores closing
An additional forty Big Lots locations have been slated for closure.
In September, leaders at Big Lots announced that company filed for bankruptcy protection after earlier reports that it was set to close almost 300 stores across the United States. The company recorded a net loss of more than $200 million for the first quarter of their fiscal year. Net sales for the period amounted to a little over $1 billion, which was 10.2% less compared to sales for the same period in 2023.
This week, the retailer announced that it would close an additional forty stores. As of August there were still more than 1,300 stores in the United States.
The drivers of Big Lots’ financial troubles
The discount store company attributed the drop to a “challenging consumer environment.”The company will sell the business to private equity firm Nexus Capital Management for $760 million as part of its bankruptcy filing. Big Lots will continue business operations but is already in the process of store closures in an effort to reduce costs.
According to their website, there are almost hundreds locations that are headed for closing soon, although no exact date has been indicated for when they will cease operations. This week additional storefronts were added to the closure list. The list below is updated with stores that have closed since September removed, and new closures listed. This number comprises more than 20% of the listed 1,389 branches of the chain across the United States.
