Starbucks has hired Brian Niccol as its new CEO to turn the company’s fortunes around. The coffee chain has been experiencing decreased sales and revenues, and Niccol seems just the person to halt and reverse this decline.

He has worked as the CEO and chair of Mexican fast-food restaurant Chipotle since 2018, leading the company through a food-borne illness controversy as well as the pandemic. He will begin his duties with Starbucks on Sept. 9.

Brian Niccol to commute 1,000 miles to Starbucks headquarters in Seattle: What is the CEO’s salary?

Starbucks will be subjecting Niccol to the company’s hybrid work policies, with the new CEO expected to work at least three days a week from its Seattle office.

Lest you think this makes him just like any other employee, note that Niccol lives in Newport Beach in California and will not be relocating to Seattle.

This means that in those days that he will be working in his primary office, he will need to commute from his home state to his place of work. Since these two places are 1,000 miles apart, Starbucks will be issuing him the services of the corporate jet so he can get to work on time.

According to his offer letter, Niccol will also be provided with a small office and an assistant in Newport Beach on the days when he works remotely.

The new CEO will be receiving a huge paycheck to go with his giant carbon footprint.

The 50-year-old will receive a base salary of $1.6 million per year, with a chance to earn an annual performance bonus that could be anywhere from $3.6 to $7.2 million. Niccol could also receive annual equity awards of up to $23 million.
