Brown University shooting: who is the shooter?
Here’s everything we know about the horrific incident at Brown.

Providence Rhode Island was shocked when a shooter, dressed in all black, stepped onto campus and killed two people, injuring another nine.
The shooting, which was carried out inside a classroom in the Barus + Holley building, a seven-story complex that houses the School of Engineering and physics department, was carried out by a man, perhaps wearing a camouflage mask. The injured victims are now in hospital, with reports suggesting around six of them in are in a critical condition.
At present, nothing is known about the shooter, and a mere sliver of vague, grainy footage has been released to the public; it has been reported that shell casings were found at the scene. The FBI is appealing to people to come forward with any information they may have.
“We have no reason to believe that there is any particular threat beyond the campus area,” Providence mayor Brett Smiley said. “The individual responsible is still at large.”
Zohran Mamdani, New York’s mayor-elect, said: “The epidemic of gun violence stretches across America. We reckon with it when we step into our houses of worship and out onto our streets, when we drop our children off at kindergarten and when we fear if those children, now grown, will be safe on campus. But unlike so many other epidemics, we possess the cure. We have the power to eradicate this suffering from our lives if we so choose.I send my deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and to the Brown and Providence communities, who are wrestling with a grief that will feel familiar to far too many others. May we never allow ourselves to grow numb to this pain, and let us rededicate ourselves to the enduring work of ending the scourge of gun violence in our nation."
