Celebrity dietitian Kim Shapira’s advice on overeating: “One shift can completely change your relationship with eating”

The designer of her own weight loss method doesn’t provide another diet but helps people lose and maintain weight using a sustainable skillset.

Many people struggle with their weight. In an attempt to lose or maintain their body wieght, they try different diets. They may find success with one or another, but all too often they find that they are eventually putting the weight back on.

This can lead to frustration and a sense of futility. However, celebrity dietitian Kim Shapira says that there is a reason that people overeating in the first place. “You’re not doing it because you’re out of control,” she explained in a recent Instagram post. “You’re doing it because you are completely distracted.”

The registered dietitian, author, and founder of the Kim Shapira Method, which is “built on six simple rules designed to help you lose weight, maintain weight, and heal your relationship with food,” says that “one shift can completely change your relationship with eating.”

She recommends having one meal a day without any distractions. She understands, as it happens to her too, that after a long day you just want to kick back and relax, scrolling through social media. However, doing so while eating, you end up missing the messages from your body and mind “that help you recognize when you’re actually hungry and when you’ve had enough.”

“You miss the moment when your body and mind say ‘I’m good. So you keep going.’”

“Why don’t you try this. One meal a day without any distractions,” she recommends. “Just you and your food. That one shift can completely change your relationship with eating. That’s real nutrition. That’s real awareness.”
