Some California residents are eligible for a flood relief check of up to $15,000. Who is eligible and how can the aid be requested?
The Merced County Board of Supervisors in California has approved a Winter Storm Flood Relief Program to provide financial assistance to households affected by flooding caused by heavy rains in 2023. The aid will be given to families in the Planada community, who will pay up to $15,000 per household. The state allocated $4 million for direct check payment and the remaining funds for home repairs and reconstruction of damaged structures from a $20 state fund budget. The relief program is expected to benefit nearly 1,000 households.
How to submit an application
The application for financial aid is not available online. To apply for this aid, you must visit the Planada Community Center, located at 9167 Stanford Avenue, Planada, CA 95365. The Center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The application period started on March 11 and will end on April 20. The selection of beneficiaries will be based on the extent of damage suffered by their homes. Those who have faced the most severe damage will be given priority. The aid package includes three primary components: housing assistance, compensation for damaged vehicles, and replacement of personal property.
