Update:

Host of the 97th Academy Awards, Conan O’Brien, began his opening monologue by taking aim at some of the films and actors nominated at this year’s event.

One of the targets was Karla Sofía Gascón, nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, who has been at the center of a major controversy surrounding offensive past tweets of the actress. The actress has skipped other major award ceremonies, as other cast members and the film’s production team distanced themselves from her after the film’s release.

Sofia was nominated for her role in Emilia Pérez, in the film of the same name, which received a total of 13 awards.

O’Brien jokes about Gascón’s tweets

O’Brien joked that if Sofía does decide to tweet tonight she should remember that his name was Jimmy Kimmel, the host of last year’s event. “Karla Sofía Gascón is here tonight. And Karla, if you are going to tweet about the Oscars, my name is Jimmy Kimmel," joked the host.

The jokes did not end there for Gascón.

O’Brien began by noting that Anora, nominated for Best Picture, “uses the F-word 479 times,” and followed up that the number was “3 more than the record set by Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist.”
