Costco confirms nationwide store closures in September: Here’s the date

Unlike many of its competitors, Costco observes more holidays throughout the year and closes all of its U.S. stores on several major holidays. Most recently, the retailer closed on Independence Day, and its next nationwide closure is scheduled for early September.

When will Costco close in September?

So far this year, Costco has closed its stores four times: New Year’s Day on January 1, Easter Sunday on April 5, Memorial Day on May 25, and Independence Day on July 4.

The company’s next scheduled closure will take place on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. All Costco locations across the United States will reopen on Tuesday, September 8.

Additional Costco holiday closures in 2026

The Labor Day closure will not be Costco’s last of the year. While many retailers only close on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, Costco shuts down all of its U.S. warehouses on seven holidays each year.

The holidays observed by Costco include:

• New Year’s Day
• Easter Sunday (although it is not a federal holiday)
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Thanksgiving Day
• Christmas Day

Following the Labor Day closure on September 7, Costco will also close on Thanksgiving Day, which falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026, and again on Friday, December 25, 2026, in observance of Christmas Day.
