Update:

Hunter Biden, the son of current US president Joe Biden, has been found guilty of firearm charges after his trial concluded this week.

The question has been raised as to whether or not President Biden, who has the power to grant Presidential pardons to citizens, absolving them of their charges and nullifying their punishments, would do so to his son.

Presidents have the power to grant pardons in federal cases, but not state cases.

Will Joe Biden give his son Hunter a Presidential pardon?

However, it seems that family ties do not stretch beyond the law in the Biden household, as the President recently came out and told the media that he would not grant his son a pardon, were he to be found guilty.

The 81-year-old President was asked by ABC News that if could rule giving a pardon for his son, to which he answered simply, “Yes.” When asked if he would accept the outcome of the jury trial, a first for a child of a sitting president, he again replied, “Yes.”

The White House had claimed on previous occasions that President Biden would not be prepared to use his pardon power on Hunter Biden, who is also facing a trial on federal tax charges in September: “I’ve been very clear; the president is not going to pardon his son,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters in December.
