Update:

Controversy seems to follow Prince Harry wherever he goes. His decision to grant the BBC an interview was ill-judged, ill-timed and the soundbites taken from it, in which he discussed his family’s private affairs and health struggles, were insensitive to them as well as being personal PR disaster for himself.

Even some of the broadcaster’s producers were shocked at some of his revelations during an emotionally charged interview that ended up being three times longer than expected.

Prince Harry rambles in bombshell BBC interview

The half hour-long interview, which aired on Friday, has sparked intense discussion, as the Duke of Sussex expressed a deep desire to reconcile with his 76-year-old father, King Charles III, who has been undergoing cancer treatment for the past year.

There have been so many disagreements, differences between myself and some of my family‚” a very unhappy Harry told journalist Nada Tawfik. “This current situation that has been now ongoing for five years, with regard to human life and safety is the sticking point. It is the only thing that’s left.

“Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book, for lots of things, but... there’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious,“ he continued. “I don’t know how much longer my father has, he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. It would be nice to reconcile”.

Harry acknowledged having a strained relationship with certain member of his family and that his father refuses to speak to him, “But reconciliation cannot come without truth,” he added.

Legal challenge over security

Harry accused King Charles of blocking the reinstatement of his police protection, suggesting that the decision—originally made in February 2020—was a political maneuver by the establishment. Last week, he lost an appeal against a decision made by the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), which authorises security for senior royals on behalf of the Home Office. Harry had his taxpayer-funded security downgraded when he emigrated to the United States.

He expressed disappointment over his latest legal setback, stating, “At this moment, I can’t imagine a world in which I can bring my wife and children back to the UK.”

Following the interview, Buckingham Palace released a statement reiterating that the prince’s requests for police security during his visits have been repeatedly denied by the courts.

All these matters have been examined meticulously and repeatedly, with the same conclusion reached each time,” said a spokesperson for King Charles III.
