Daylight Saving Time 2025 begins in the United States: when should you set your clocks ahead?
Clocks turned back an hour in November and will go forward an hour this month. Find out when daylight saving time starts and ends in 2025.

Most people in the United States have to reset the time on their clocks twice a year - specifically on the second Sunday in March, when daylight saving time begins, and on the first Sunday in November, when it ends and clocks return to standard time.
Clocks turned back one hour in November 2024. The next change will be this month, when daylight saving time begins, and the clock must be advanced one hour: there is a saying to help you remember: “Spring forward, Fall back.”
When does daylight saving time start in the United States in 2025?
In 2025, daylight saving time begins on Sunday, March 9 in the United States. To set your clock to daylight saving time, the hour hand must be moved forward one hour. The time change is usually made at 2:00 a.m. - on the stroke of 2:00 a.m. we move forward to 3:00 a.m.
However, in many cases you won’t have to worry about staying awake to make the change manually, as most electronic devices with digital clocks such as smartphones, PCs, tablets etc. will automatically reset their clock at that time. A battery-run wall clock however, will need to be changed manually.
When does time change again in the United States in 2025?
Daylight Saving Time, which begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9 2025, will remain in effect for eight months until standard time returns in November. In 2025, the time will change again at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, the date on which Daylight Saving Time ends and clocks must be set back one hour.
In these parts of the United States, there is no daylight saving time
In some parts of the United States people do not change their clocks, as they do not observe daylight saving time. This is because the Uniform Time Act of 1966 allows states to exempt themselves from observing it.
The state of Hawaii and most of Arizona do not have daylight saving time, so you should never set your clocks forward or back when you are there. Other US territories in the Pacific and Caribbean Sea, such as Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa, also maintain standard time year-round.
Arizona had used daylight saving time since 1918, but decided to stop using it in 1968. Although the state maintains standard time, Navajo Nation in the northeast of the state does observe daylight saving time, so the time changes twice a year.
Trump vows to end Daylight Saving Time: When will he do it?
Republicans are looking to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, as President Donald Trump revealed last year. “The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t. Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient and very costly for our nation,” the president shared on his Truth Social profile in December 2024.
The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t! Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 13, 2024
However, Trump did not give any clues to when the proposal to eliminate daylight saving time might be introduced and voted on in Congress. He also did not specify whether maintaining a single time zone would result in eliminating daylight saving time to maintain standard time or whether daylight saving time would apply year-round.
