Do you want to make $277 an hour playing Uno? Mattel is looking for a ‘Chief Uno player’
The toy company is searching for a games aficionado to promote their new ‘Uno Quatro’ game on Tik Tok, for a decent reward.
Mattel, the toy company behind Barbie, was searching for a content creator to be the face of their social media campaign to promote their new game, Uno Quatro. Like the classic game, Quatro needs players to match numbers and colours as well as the new objective of four tiles in a row.
“We’re thrilled to offer a position to the ultimate Uno player to help introduce our brand-new game, Uno Quatro, to the world,” said Ray Adler, the global head of games at Mattel, in a statement.
Though this would have been planend long in advance, the advertising campaign comes soon after the roaring success of the Barbie move which will have netted the company tens of millions of dollars.
Using social media seems a proven way to keep the hype train rolling for their products, especially on a site that is fast growing to be the most important social media site for America’s youth; by the end of his year it is predicted to have 1.8 billion users.
“This really reflects the state of marketing today…the question is how do you get people engaged and interested in a brand [like Uno] that has been around for 50 years,” Tim Calkins, a marketing professor at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management says.
“For many brands TikTok is the key.”
Who was eligible?
Any US citizen over the age of 18 could apply, as long as they can fulfill the unusual job requirements of being able to remain seated for extended durations and having the capability to transport 50 pounds or greater weight in order to relocate tents for game setup.
The applicant will also need to be in New York for the four weeks from 13 September.
How much will they get paid?
The chosen applicant will be paid $4,444 a week for four weeks to play the game with strangers and create social media content to boost its profile.
The job is four hours of attendance per day, four days a week for the length of the contract, meaning earnings of $17,776 in toal.
