Donald Trump has a plan to turn Canada into the 51st state of the USA: ‘free’ protection thanks to the Golden Dome system

Canadian leaders have shown interest in the Golden Dome project, but it is unlikely to convince them to join the US as the 51st state.

Update:

Although President Donald Trump’s offer to Canada to become the country’s 51st state has been rejected numerous times, the president is putting the offer on the table again. However, he is looking to sweeten the deal with an offer of free military protection under the president’s ‘Golden Dome.’

On his social media platform, Truth Social, the president announced that he had updated the terms of his offer.

I told Canada, who is eager to join our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost them $61 billion if they stay a separate but unequal nation,” Trump wrote. “But it will cost them nothing if they become our beloved 51st state. They’re considering the offer!”

How did the Canadian government respond?

Canada, however, has dismissed the proposal as a form of “protection racket,” according to Canadian Ambassador to the UN, Bob Rae. “In another context this would called a ‘protection racket,’” Rae posted on his social media accounts.

The funding for the Golden Dome missile defense system has yet to be allocated by Congress. Trump initially announced a $25 billion investment for the project, although total costs are expected to reach $175 billion upon completion. “It will be capable of intercepting missiles, even those launched from across the globe—or from space,” said Trump, adding that construction would take three years. However, military experts quickly rejected such a short timeline, highlighting that some of the technology the dome requests has yet to be developed. According to two sources familiar with the project who spoke to The Guardian, the system is unlikely to be fully functional until late 2028, after the end of Trump’s current term.
