‘Don’t Worry Darling’ was released in theaters last week and received a mixed reception. But despite lukewarm reviews, the thriller has become one of the most controversial productions in recent years due to the drama between the film’s cast and director, Olivia Wilde.

The film stars Florence Pugh in a lead role and the Midsommer star had initially been cast alongside Shia LaBeouf. However, the actor ended up leaving the project, reportedly due to tensions between his co-star and director. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg and the countless other theories have been circulating online.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Don’t Worry Darling’ drama...

Was Shia LaBeouf fired by Olivia Wilde?

Initially, it was claimed that Olivia had fired Shia to “protect” Florence, because his method acting had affected his on-set demeanour to such an extent that he was being violent.

However, LaBeouf came out to deny Wilde’s statements and even posted a video in which the director is seen asking him to return to the project. Wilde’s comments in the leaked video seem to suggest that LaBeouf had left the movie due to lack of chemistry with Pugh.

Olivia Wilde dates Harry Styles and he replaces Shia LaBeouf

After Olivia Wilde ended her relationship with the father of her children, Jason Sudeikis, the 38-year-old actress began a courtship with the former member of One Direction, Harry Styles, 28. After it was confirmed that LaBeouf was leaving the movie, Style’s name was quickly forwarded as a replacement.

Despite his lack of acting experience, Styles was handed a leading role in a major Hollywood film. This, understandably, was said to have caused friction in production and did nothing to ingratiate Wilde and Styles to the cast.

According to a report in Insider, Styles soon began to receive “special treatment”. The favoritism reportedlybegan to make the rest of the team uncomfortable, especially the film’s star, Florence Pugh, who was not present for numerous press events to promote the film.

Mid-presentation divorce

Just when the director was probably thinking that everything which could go wrong, had gone wrong, some unexpected paperwork complicated things further. While Wilde was on stage at CinemaCon, giving a presentation on Don’t Worry Darling, an unidentified woman handed her an envelope that simply read “Personal and Confidential.

Wilde opened the envelopse on stage and, after briefly reading the contents, continued with her speech. It later transpired that she had been served with custody papers with ex-husband Jason Sudeikis, whom Wilde was in the process of divorcing. Sudeikis later claimed that he did not know that the papers would be delivered in such a public way, but Wilde went on to call it “appalling.”

Salary difference between Florence Pugh and Harry Styles

US media outlet have claimed that Harry Styles earned more money than Florence Pugh for his work on the film, despite his relative inexperience and the Pugh’s more prominent role in the production.

Florence Pugh vs. Olivia Wilde

The tensions that arose on set were reportedly so severe that Pugh to refused to attend sections of the media tour of the film, and she has done little promotion for it.

When asked at the Venice Film Festival about Pugh’s absence, Wilde explained that the star wouldn’t be attending because she was shooting Dune II. However, after five minutes, Pugh made a grand entrance, contradicting Wilde’s statement.

Harry Styles spit on Chris Prine

As if it could not get any more bizarre, earlier this month a video went viral, appearing to show Styles spits on Chris Pine during the Festival.

The video was so widely-shared that Pine’s representative was forced to release a statement denying any kind of tension between the actor and the singer: “There is nothing more than respect between these two men.”
