Double Social Security payment the first week of February: who will receive it?

The first week of February, the Social Security Administration will send two Social Security payments, and some beneficiaries will receive both.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is preparing to send payments for the month of February, including benefits for retired workers, survivors and disability benefits, including Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

The SSA will send two payments during the first week of February and the rest on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month.

This is the Social Security payment schedule

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are sent on the first day of each month. If the first day of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, payment is advanced to the first business day before .

On the third day of each month, the SSA sends the money to beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997. If the third day falls on a weekend or holiday, payments are also advanced.

For those who collect two benefits, Social Security (retirees or survivors) and SSI payments at the same time, the SSI payment is sent on the first day of the month and the Social Security on the third day.

The rest of the Social Security checks are sent on Wednesdays, depending on the date of birth of the beneficiaries:

  • Second Wednesday of the month: retirees with a date of birth between the 1st and 10th
  • Third Wednesday: beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th
  • Fourth Wednesday: retirees born between the 21st and the 31st

If any payment date falls on a federal holiday, payment is advanced to the first preceding business day.

SSA will send two Social Security payments the first week of February

As the payment schedule indicates, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are sent on the first day of the month, so in February they will be sent on Thursday the 1st.

On the other hand, on Friday, February 2, payments are sent for those who began receiving their benefits before May 1997. If said beneficiaries also receive the SSI payment, they will receive two payments in February.

Additionally, any other Social Security recipients, whether they receive retired workers or survivors payments, and are also recipients of Supplemental Security Income, will receive their SSI payment on February 1 and the retirement payment or survivor benefits on February 2.

  • Thursday 1 February: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Beneficiaries
  • Friday 2 February: Beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997
  • Wednesday the 14th: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 1st and the 10th
  • Wednesday the 21st: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 11th and the 20th
  • Wednesday the 28th: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 21st and the 31st

Payments are sent via direct deposit to beneficiaries who have shared a bank account or via postal mail in a paper check, both of which take longer to arrive.
