Early predictions ahead of the 2023 Academy Awards nominations: Favorites to win, odds...
2023 Oscar nominations will be announced shortly and predictions for the top contenders are being cemented based on other award ceremonies picks for best.
The 2023 Academy Awards nominees will be announced on 24 January but there is already hype around who will go up on stage to collect the Oscar for the top categories. While the judges for the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards don’t have a direct say who will win the coveted statuettes on 12 March 2023, their choices for the best have the critics and bookies believing they know.
Here’s a look at the top contenders for the biggest prizes and which actors and movies are the favorites.
‘Elvis’, ‘Tár’, ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ and ‘The Fabelmans’ are all expected to be on the shortlist of ten contenders for Best Picture at the 95th Academy Awards. However, the favorite is a movie that has caught a lot of attention this year, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’.
A handful of names top the list to take home an Oscar for Best Director including James Cameron (Avatar: The Way of Water), Todd Field, (Tár), Martin McDonagh (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Sarah Polley (Women Talking). However, there are two who have already been recognized, Steven Spielberg (The Fabelmans) at the Golden Globes and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere All at Once) at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Vegas is betting that the former will end up with a statuette on 12 March.
It’s pretty much a three-horse race between Austin Butler, Colin Farrell and Brendan Fraser for the 2023 Best Actor award according to the odds. The first two both won Golden Globe Awards for their performances in ‘Elvis’ and ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ respectively. However, the Critics’ Choice Awards gave Best Actor to Fraser for his role in ‘The Whale’ and Vegas gives him better odds of winning.
The potential nominees in the category of Best Actress including Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans), Danielle Deadwyler (Till) and Viola Davis (The Woman King) all gave powerful performances. However, top of the list to win an Oscar this year are Cate Blanchett (Tár) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), both of whom won a Golden Globe in the category. However, the Aussie also took home the award at the Critics’ Choice Awards and leads the odds to do so again at the 2023 Academy Awards.
