Donald Trump was sworn-in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, January 20, and his first speech as Commander-in-Chief provided certain insights into the political vision that will shape his agenda for the country over the next four years.

The event was attended by a series of high profile political figures, wealthy billionaires, foreign dignitaries and members of the tech world which included the likes of Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Tesla, Starlink and X head Elon Musk.

Musk, spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars to help elect Trump in November with the new administration appointing the 53-year-old Musk to lead a department aimed at creating a more efficient U.S. government.

Musk gesture

As Musk concluded his speech in his capacity as Head of Government Efficiency at today’s D.C ceremony, he thanked Trump stating: ‘thank, you, thank you for making it happen’, banging his chest and making a Nazi like salute.

What is a Nazi salute?

The Nazi salute was used as a gesture in Nazi Germany (1933-1945). The salute is performed by extending the right arm from the shoulder into the air with a straightened hand with the gesture then accompanied by a cry of "Heil Hitler!" (‘Hail Hitler!’).

The gesture is illegal today in Germany, Austria and Slovakia but is commonly used in far right circles across the world.
