Elon Musk joins a long list of Trump employees who turned on the president: “He is too dangerous, too selfish and too extreme”
A notable number of former Trump administration officials and employees have become vocal critics of the current U.S. President.
Elon Musk’s time as a “special government employee” has come to an end after he resigned from his role and was given a send off at a press event where Musk appeared alongside President Trump last week.
However, just a few days later, as negotiations over the GOP spending bill, dubbed by the White House as the “big beautiful bill,” Musk is now voicing his opposition.
He took to his X account and stated: “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” read the post.
Musk seems to be set to join a list of notable number of former Trump administration officials and employees have become vocal critics of Donald Trump. This phenomenon is striking and, according to some historians, unprecedented in recent American political history.
Many critics cite their direct observations of Trump’s conduct, leadership style, and decision-making during their time in his administration. They claim to have witnessed actions and behaviors that they believe are detrimental to democracy, the rule of law, or the best interests of the country. For example, former Defense Secretary Mark Esper has called Trump a “threat to democracy,” and former National Security Advisor John Bolton has declared him “unfit to be president.”
A significant motivation for many former officials is their belief that Trump’s actions, particularly after the 2020 election and leading up to January 6th, 2021, posed a direct threat to democratic institutions and the Constitution. Some, like former Chief of Staff John Kelly, have described Trump as having “contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law.”
‘Constant friction’
Reports indicate constant friction within the Trump White House as some officials resisted demands they found inappropriate or unlawful. This often led to firings or resignations, creating a pool of former employees who felt compelled to speak out.
Ahead of the 2024 general election, Biden campaign spokesman Ammar Moussa stated: “Those who worked with Donald Trump at the most senior levels of his administration believe he is too dangerous, too selfish and too extreme to ever lead our country again — and we agree.”
