Elon Musk has stepped down as head of Twitter and NBC executive Linda Yaccarino has been announced as the replacement. What will she bring to the role?

Elon Musk has announced that he is stepping down as CEO of Twitter, and that he will be taking on other responsibilities in the social media platform. His replacement has been chosen.

“Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks! My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops,” he wrote in a Tweet on Thursday.

Who is Linda Yaccarino, the new Twitter CEO?

Yaccarino chairs global advertising and partnerships at NBCUniversal, responsible for this aspect of the company across all of its businesses including broadcast, cable, digital, and theme parks.

She has been with NBCU for over a decade and has held various leadership positions within the organization. Yaccarino played a major role in launching the company’s ad-supported streaming service, Peacock.

Prior to joining NBCUniversal, Yaccarino held executive roles at Turner Broadcasting and Viacom.

With Yaccarino named as Musk’s successor, her expertise in running a multi-billion-dollar advertising business will be useful in helping persuade companies to once again spend their advertising dollars on Twitter.

Musk’s short time manning the tiller

Musk bought Twitter in October and has been running it since that time. He had repeatedly said that he was not to be Twitter’s permanent CEO.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” he wrote in a tweet in December.
