To pay or not to pay? That was the question doing the rounds for celebrities and organisations that had had their Twitter blue tick removed by the controversial new owner of the social media platform. Elon Musk has been trying to turn the popular site into a money-making machine but not everyone thought that they should have to pay for the privilege of effectively saying “yes, it’s me!” As Liam Gallagher, a man rather good with words, said on Saturday, it is ‘absurd’.

Why do some people have their blue ticks back?

Well, on Sunday morning, many of those little symbols began to appear alongside the names of famous users (and some less so) of the site, and no payments had been made. It appears that the algorithm has been set to activate it for anyone that has at least one million followers. Let’s have a look at the conversations that this change in heart has sparked.
