Elon Musk wants to move SpaceX and X headquarters out of California. Where to?
Tech billionaire Elon Musk says that he’s “had enough” with California and will be moving the headquarters of Space X and his social media platform X.
Elon Musk posted on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that he would be moving that company’s headquarters and that of SpaceX out of California. The announcement came after Governor Gavin Newsom signed the SAFTEY Act into law which the tech billionaire called “the final straw.”
The legislation prohibits school districts from enacting policies that require the forcible outing of LGBTQ+ students to their parents without the child’s consent. It also shields teachers and school staff from retaliation who refuse to obey such policies.

Musk posted on X Tuesday afternoon, that “because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas,” which is located south of Brownsville near the border with Mexico and is where the space startup has been test launching its Starship rocket. “I did make it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws of this nature would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children,” he added.
About fifteen minutes later he put out another post saying, “And X HQ will move to Austin. Have had enough of dodging gangs of violent drug addicts just to get in and out of the building.”
The governor of California replied to the tech billionaire’s latest threat to pull his businesses out of the state posting “You bent the knee.” Newson also included a post by the then president talking about the tech mogul’s visit to the White House saying he could have told Musk “‘drop to your knees and beg’, and he would’ve done it.”
Musk recently said that he was “fully” endorsing the GOP presidential candidate after the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. As well he plans to donate $45 million a month to a pro-Trump super PAC according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
The billionaire, who is also the CEO of Tesla, already moved the headquarters of the electric car manufacturer to Austin, Texas from Palo Alto, California in 2021. He had previously moved his fiscal address in the Lone Star state in December 2020.
