Human rights activist Ethel Kennedy, widow of former United States Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and sister-in-law of former President John F. Kennedy, was hospitalized after suffering a stroke a few days ago.

Her grandson, former Rep. Joe Kennedy III, shared her situation on social media.

Ethel Kennedy hospitalized after stroke: What is her current condition?

“Unfortunately, on Thursday morning she suffered a stroke in her sleep. She was brought to an area hospital, where she is now receiving treatment,” Kennedy posted on X.

She is comfortable, she is getting the best care possible, and she is surrounded by family. She is, as you may know, a strong woman who has led a remarkably fulfilling life. We are here looking after her,” he wrote.

Kennedy ended his statement by asking people to keep his grandmother in their thoughts and prayers, and requesting that their family’s privacy be respected at this tie.

The 96-year-old Kennedy matriarch has been known to help the family overcome personal crises and tribulations, including the assassination of her husband only a few years after that of JFK, aside from a number of other tragedies.

She is mother to 11 children, including former presidential aspirant and anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
