Fast food has become so expensive that many Americans now consider it a luxury. They are now eating less at quick service restaurants due to rising prices.

In response to dampened enthusiasm for dining at their restaurants, fast food chains are scrambling to come up with deals that will convince their customers that they are still a low-cost option. Many have come up with value meals for diners this summer.

Fast food meal deals for summer

McDonald’s $5 value meal

The largest fast food restaurant chain in the world saw a decrease in sales in the first quarter of the year, prompting it to offer cheaper options to win back their customers who are experiencing high-priced-fast-food fatigue.

McDonald’s released a much-awaited $5 value meal on June 25, 2024, and the promotion is running for four weeks. The deal offers a choice between a McChicken sandwich and a McDouble hamburger, and it comes with four-piece chicken nuggets, fries and a drink.

Burger King’s $5 Your Way Meal

Burger King launched its own $5 value meal before the top chain did. BK calls its deal the $5 Your Way Meal, and will give diners the option to choose between three sandwiches as well as chicken nuggets, with the main item coming with fries and a drink.

The Florida-based company also says their value meal will be on the menu for several months, as compared to McDonald’s four-week promo.

Wendy’s $3 breakfast meal deal

Wendy’s beat both McDonald’s and Burger King to the punch by launching a $3 breakfast combo before the two put together their value meal. The morning bundle offers an English muffin sandwich with egg, cheese, and bacon or sausage, and a side of seasoned potatoes.

The chain is already giving away free chicken nuggets every week on Wednesday with any purchase through its app.

KFC’s $4.99 Meal for One

The fried chicken chain’s budget meal is already in full swing, and will run until the end of the year. Chicken lovers can order the $4.99 Meal for One, which includes two pieces of dark meat chicken (one thigh, one drumstick) along with a biscuit and a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. The restaurant is also giving its customers free delivery every Sunday this summer if they order through the KFC website or app.

Taco Bell’s $7 Luxe Cravings Box

Taco Bell joined the value meal war by launching the “Luxe Cravings Box”, which brings together four of its most popular items: a Chalupa Supreme taco, a beefy 5-layer burrito, a double-stacked taco, chips with nacho cheese sauce, accompanied by a medium drink, all for the price of $7.

This comes out to a significant 55% discount compared to what it would all cost together at regular price.

Starbucks’ Pairings Menu

The coffee chain also threw its hat into the ring by introducing its Pairings Menu. The offer gives customers two options: one costing $5, which will give you a tall iced or hot coffee or an iced or hot tea along with a croissant; and the other coming with a $6 price tag, which offers the same drink option plus any of their breakfast sandwiches.
