The city of Boulder, Colorado, has an annual program called the Food Tax Rebate Program. Each year, the city provides tax rebates to help lower-income residents pay for groceries. This year, rebates are $99 for individuals and $302 for families. Who is eligible for the benefit and how can one apply for this financial aid?

To be eligible, applicants must complete an application and meet financial eligibility guidelines. The person must have resided in Boulder for the entire 2022 calendar year, be 62 years or older for the entire 2022 calendar year, be an individual with a disability, or be part of a family with children under the age of 18 in the household for the whole 2022 calendar year.

City residents who do not have permanent shelter are also eligible for reimbursement and can meet the residency requirement by providing documentation that they are receiving services from a state-recognized homeless service agency in the city.

Financial eligibility guidelines

In the case of individual taxpayers, they must have income less than $43,900. In the case of families, the accepted income varies according to the number of members:

  • 1 member: up to $43,900
  • 2 members: up to $50,200
  • 3 members: $56,450
  • 4 members: $62,700
  • 5 members: $67,750
  • 6 members: $72,750
  • 7 members: $77,750
  • 8 members: $82,800

The period to apply for the Food Tax Rebate Program began on March 1. Application forms must be received or postmarked by the June 30 deadline.
