Freddy Rincón, former Colombian soccer captain and Real Madrid player, has been hospitalized after he was involved in a serious car crash in Cali, Colombia. He is in critical condition with severe head injuries.

The car accident happened early on Monday morning when the car he was driving crashed into a bus. There were four other people inside the car with Rincón. All passengers of the car and the driver of the bus were injured.

The Imbanaco Clinic said that Rincón endured a “traumatic brain injury” and was in surgery for around three hours. He is now in intensive care in critical condition.

“His condition is very serious, taking into consideration the findings in the surgery,” said Laureano Quintero, director at the hospital where Rincón is being treated.

Rincón played for Napoli and Real Madrid and won the FIFA World Cup in 2000 when he played for Brazil with Corinthians. He also played 84 games with and captained for the Colombian national soccer team and was in three World Cups with the team.
