From Minnesota to Oregon: more people shot by ICE agents following Renee Nicole Good killing
A shooting involving federal agents leaves two people injured in Portland, raising fresh questions amid already strained relations with Washington.

A man and a woman were injured in a shooting in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday afternoon involving agents from Customs and Border Protection, authorities said in a statement. The incident unfolded near a hospital and prompted an immediate response from local police.
Police said they received a report of a shooting at about 5:15 p.m. ET, and minutes later were alerted to a wounded man. Officers arrived at the scene and found two people with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported for medical treatment, and the area was secured as investigators began their work.
“As far as we know, both are still alive, and we hope to receive more positive updates later this afternoon,” said Elana Pirtle-Guiney, the president of the City Council, during a council meeting. Authorities have not released the identities of those injured or the reason they were shot.
Local leaders react amid rising tensions
The shooting came a day after a woman, Renee Nicole Good, was killed in Minnesota by an agent with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Bob Day, Portland’s police chief, urged residents to remain calm while investigations continue. “We understand the emotion and tension many are feeling after the shooting in Minneapolis,” he said. Calls for restraint echoed across city and state leadership.

The US senator Jeff Merkley also appealed for calm, writing on X, formerly Twitter: “Trump wants to provoke unrest. Don’t take the bait.” Portland’s mayor, Keith Wilson, along with the City Council, called on ICE to halt all operations in the city until the investigation is complete. “Portland is not a ‘training ground’ for militarized agents, and the ‘full force’ threatened by the administration has deadly consequences,” a joint statement said.
Homeland Security posted an explanation of events similar to that of the Minnesota shooting:
At 2:19 PST, US Border Patrol agents were conducting a targeted vehicle stop in Portland, Oregon. The passenger of the vehicle and target is a Venezuelan illegal alien affiliated with the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting in…

The shooting has further escalated tensions between Portland and Donald Trump, amid disputes over the federal government’s past efforts to deploy the National Guard to quell protests at ICE facilities last summer. City officials say the latest incident underscores the risks of an aggressive federal presence.
