Goodbye to Chick-fil-A in the United States: the restaurant will close all its branches for 24 hours on this date

Chick-fil-A is preparing to close all of its locations across the United States in the coming days. The fast-food chain confirmed it will shut down on December 25 in observance of Christmas Day. All locations will resume in-person service on Friday, December 26.

“Chick-fil-A restaurants in the United States are closed on Christmas Day so our restaurant teams can spend time with family and friends,” the company says on its official website.

As for Christmas Eve, on December 24, restaurants will remain open, although they may operate with limited hours. Customers are advised to check ahead with their nearest Chick-fil-A before visiting.

To confirm specific hours, customers can select their preferred restaurant in the Chick-fil-A app or use the store locator on the company’s website.

Other establishments that will also close at Christmas 2025

Because Christmas Day is a federal holiday, government offices are required by law to close, giving federal employees the day off. Other establishments – including schools, private businesses, banks, supermarkets and restaurants – decide individually whether to close.

On December 25, major banks including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citibank, U.S. Bank, SunTrust, Capital One, Citizens Bank, Santander, BBVA and Compass will be closed.

Schools, post offices and stock exchanges will also be shut. Unlike some other holidays when stores remain open, on Christmas Day most major retailers such as Costco, Walmart and Target typically close their doors.

In the restaurant sector, some chains stay open, but many choose to close. In addition to Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Cracker Barrel, Taco Bell, Whataburger, Texas Roadhouse and Chili’s have confirmed closures for December 25. By contrast, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Dunkin’ and Wendy’s are expected to remain open.

Will Chick-fil-A open on New Year’s Day?

Chick-fil-A locations across the United States do operate on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, although hours may be limited. Customers are again encouraged to check in advance with their nearest restaurant.
