Lowe’s, the go-to hardware giant for many shoppers, has announced that they will close all locations for one day later this month. The date? Easter Sunday, which this year falls on April 20.

The company will close down their 1,700 stores in the US to give their workers a day off. Fox 10 Phoenix first reported the news, stating that CEO Marvin Ellison made a statement recognizing workers’ “continued hard work” and allowing them to “spend Easter with their loved ones.”

However, the announcement cited in the Fox article is actually from 2023, when Lowe’s first started closing on Easter. After two years, store associates might begin planning to have the day off since Easter is not a public holiday.

Easter might not be a high-traffic day for nationwide chains as millions celebrate with their families, allowing companies to provide this benefit without a major hit. Since the pandemic, other major chains, including Walmart and Target, have increased the number of holidays for their workers, with both providing Thanksgiving Day off. This Easter, Walmart will be open, but Target will also keep their physical locations closed to allow workers to spend time with family.
