Heat wave in the East Coast: Which cities could record triple-digit temperatures today, June 23?

Summer has just begun, and already triple digit temperatures are rocking communities across the country. Cities and regions will see high temperatures on 23 June.

At least 10,000 customers have had their electricity cut in Pennsylvania as a heatwave presses down on the East Coast, testing the strength of the region’s power grid. Up in the Northeast quadrant of the state, Wayne County residents are experiencing outages, with PowerOutages.us reporting that over 2,300 customers are without power.

After battering down for days, the heat is beginning to dissipate along the East Coast, with only a few Excessive Heat Warnings issued by the National Weather Service. One alert was issued covering ¨portions of northern Delaware, central, northern, and southern New Jersey, and southeast Pennsylvania¨ The warning will remain in effect until 8 p.m. ET, as temperatures could hit 107ºF in the area on Sunday.

Which cities are listed under the advisory?

Jackson, Philadelphia, Freehold, Morrisville, Norristown, Somerville, Lansdale, Doylestown, Cherry Hill, Pennsville, Camden, Kennett Square, New Brunswick, Mount Holly, West Chester, Wharton State Forest, Moorestown, Trenton, Media, Glassboro, and Wilmington. 

Areas of California under heat advisories

Though the East Coast is seeing some relief, other areas of the country are expected to see temperatures rise to the triple digits this week.

On the other side of the country in Southern California, temperatures in the triple digits are expected today and next week. The NWS has issued an EHW for Antelope Valley and Eastern Antelope Valley Foothills that will be in effect until Thursday at 8 p.m. PT. Temperatures could reach anywhere between 105 and 108ºF. Others that will remain in effect throughout the week were issued for the Apple and Lucerne Valleys, Coachella Valley, and San Diego County Deserts, where temperatures could rise to 112ºF.

An excessive heat warning issued for the area around Santa Barabara will expire today at 8 pm PT. Residents should be aware that temperatures could reach between 100 and 105º today.

The heat settles in over the Rockies

Over in Utah, the NWS has issued a warning for today covering Eastern Box Elder County, the Great Salt Lake Desert and Mountains, the Northern Wasatch Front, the Salt Lake Valley, and the Tolle and Rush Valleys, where temperatures are expected to reach 101ºF.
