The national average price for a gallon of gasoline continues to decline slightly, though it remains above $4.00, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA).

Since late February, when the United States entered into conflict with Iran, gas prices began to rise due to uncertainty in the energy market. However, after a two-week ceasefire was announced, fuel prices have started to fall.

Although oil prices surpassed $100 per barrel on Monday after President Donald Trump stated that the United States would block the Strait of Hormuz, prices dropped on Tuesday after he said Iran had reached out to his administration to continue negotiations. The president also indicated that the war may be nearing an end.

For now, oil prices remain below $100 per barrel. According to Oil Price Chart, as of 12:47 p.m. ET this Wednesday, West Texas Intermediate crude is trading at about $91.45 per barrel, while Brent crude stands at $95.34.

How much does gas cost in the United States today, April 15?

Gas prices have not risen solely due to the conflict in Iran. Each year, prices tend to increase during this season for other reasons. For example, demand typically rises as the summer months approach.

Additionally, the switch to summer gasoline blends drives prices higher, as refineries produce a “special” fuel mixture with more expensive additives designed to reduce evaporation during warmer weather.

As of April 15, the national average price for gasoline is $4.108 per gallon, according to AAA. Yesterday, April 14, the average was $4.118, compared to $4.164 a week ago and $3.699 a month ago.
