America had another dark day on Saturday when a gunman opened fire during a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. It appears his target was the former President with Trump reaching for his right ear as the first gunshots rang out.

The Secret Service rushed to cover the man they are sworn to protect, who had already dropped down to the floor ducting behind the podium. They quickly rushed him off stage once the coast was clear and took him to a nearby medical center for treatment.

Soon after the horrific incident, Trump’s eldest son Don Jr. posted a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, that said “He’ll never stop fighting to Save America,” and was followed by an American flag emoji. He also included a picture of his father with a clenched fist held high and a bloodied face surrounded by Secret Service agents helping him off the stage.

Later he posted a statement that he had spoken to his father by phone and said that the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party was “in great spirits.”

“He will never stop fighting to save America, no matter what the radical left throws at him,” he added.

Politicians from both sides of the aisle decried the violence saying that it has no place in our politics nor country. They used their messages to send their thoughts to the former president and the attendees at the rally. They also expressed gratitude to the swift actions of the Secret Service.

President Biden as well went on television to address the nation about the shooting. “There is no place in America for this kind of violence,” he told the nation calling it “sick.”

“It is one of the reasons we have to unite this country,” he continued. “We cannot allow for this to be happening. We cannot be like this. We cannot condone this,” he told the nation.

In an earlier message he posted on social media he said, “I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally… Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety.”
