Update:

Honda is recalling some 300,000 cars in the US due to faulty seatbelts. Some front seat belts in 2023-2024 Accords and HR-Vs are known to be affected,

The problem comes from a defective rivet that prevents occupants from jerking forwards in a crash. No deaths or injuries have as yet been reported.

The importance of seatbelts

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that seatbelts saved over 15,000 lives in the United States in 2019.

The NHTSA reports that wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of moderate to critical injury by 50%.

The company is dealing with another quarter of a million recalled vehicles from just last week due to an error that may cause engine damage.

In total Honda has been dealing with 16 car recalls this year, though this is lower than other competitors in the US.
