Former President Jimmy Carter’s strong family ties have long been a defining feature of his character.

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter were married 77 years before the former first lady passed away on Nov. 19, 2023. Their marriage is considered one of the most enduring and celebrated in U.S. presidential history.

The late president’s devotion to his wife and children has been a model for a balanced and loving family life. Even during his presidency, he made time for family, despite the demands of leading the country.

The couple were married in 1946, and their union produced four children. The former president had often said the reason for his long life and enjoyment of it was his wife and his family.
