How the $10 million California winner didn’t choose his ticket

For multi-million dollar winner Brent Young, there was very little effort made, from him at least, to pick the winning scratch-off ticket.

When luck is on your side, it can really be on your side. That’s certainly what happened to Brent Young, a man from California who ended up winning $10 million from a scratch card he didn’t even choose, from an establishment he wasn’t meant to have gone to. Young arrived at ‘Prince Food & Gas,’ a gas station that serves food you’ll be amazed to hear, located in Fresno County, California, to fill up his car’s tank. While there he decided to purchase a lottery ticket while he waited.

Lady Luck smiled on scratcher winner

Young, speaking publicly after his big win, mentioned that when he reached the counter, he saw many options and decided to leave his fate in someone else’s hands. The California man asked the gas station attendant to help him pick one of the Scratchers lottery tickets because there were so many choices, and he couldn’t decide on just one.

I was like, ‘Just pick whichever one.’ I didn’t care, the lucky man told the California Lottery. “When I saw all those zeros, I was like ‘no way, this doesn’t happen to people like me.’ It’s crazy. Out of all those options, the clerk could have picked a different game. But he didn’t. He grabbed a winner.

“It’s almost like God’s intervention,” Young continued. “I didn’t have a specific ticket I was going to buy, so I let someone else decide. I had no choice but to go to Prince’s. My usual stop was closed. If it had been open, none of this probably would have happened.”

Young ended up taking home $5.8 million as a lump sum, and the gas station received $50,000 for selling the winning ticket. From the reports we’ve seen, there was no mention of an extra amount of the winnings being handed over to the man who picked the lucky card in the first place.
