It wouldn’t be the 4th of July without watching a fireworks display. Here’s a look at this year’s best Fourth of July spectacles across the United States.

Americans will be celebrating the Fourth of July national holiday, commemorating the date that the Declaration of Independence was signed, on Thursday. And it wouldn’t be the 4th of July without watching a fireworks display. Fortunately, just about anywhere you go on Independence Day there will be a spectacle near you.

Unfortunately, there is no concise online database of all the celebrations on offer this year, so we’ve pulled together a list of some of the biggest and best fireworks displays in the nation if you are hoping to catch the live show.

Birmingham, Alabama – Thunder on the Mountain 2024

The largest city in the state uses the iconic Vulcan cast iron statue as a backdrop for a breathtaking fireworks display, staged in honor of those who have fought for US independence. The fireworks show, in which over 2,500 artillery shells and effects will be used, will be televised on local stations from 9 p.m.

But Vulcan Park and Museum will be closing at 6 p.m. to prepare for the show. For more information on the best viewing spots, such as Five Points South, Homewood and Vestavia, check out these prime viewing locations.

Boston, Massachusetts – Fireworks and Pops Concert

An enormous Independence Day extravaganza will be held across New England with the fireworks display along the Charles River, at the DCR Hatch Shell on the Esplanade from 10.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Before that there will be a spectacular concert, which starts at 8 p.m. - topping the bill, Kelli O’Hara. Other performers joining the Boston Pops Orchestra with conductor Keith Lockhart include: The Mavericks, soul singer Darlene Love, and the Singing Sergeants from the United States Air Force Band. The firework display is free and can be watched from the Oval, in front of the DCR Hatch Shell. The Oval opens at 12 noon on 4 July. More information here:

Clear Lake, Iowa – Flashing Thunder Fireworks

If you want a more local feel to your Fourth of July experience then the fireworks display at Clear Lake may be more your kind of thing. Despite boasting a population of just 7,600 the town’s celebrations run from Wednesday July 3 to July Sunday 7, 2024, and the Thursday night fireworks show over Clear Lake at 10 p.m. is definitely the highlight. Fort Lauderdale, Florida – 4th of July Spectacular

For a coastal taste of Independence Day celebrations get down to Fort Lauderdale where Where various music groups, including iconic R&B group En Vogue, will be warming the crowd up from noon until the seaside fireworks display from 8:45 p.m. on Fort Lauderdale Beach.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Bright lights and loud noises are nothing new in Las Vegas and the spectacle will be amped up even further on Thursday as various events and a number of fireworks displays take place across Sin City. The only display on the Las Vegas Strip will be at Ceasar’s Palace and the Plaza in Downtown getting under way at 9 pm. However, there will be other spectacles across the Las Vegas Valley.

Nashville, Tennessee – Let Freedom Sing!

This Independence Day will be one to remember in Nashville with one of the largest fireworks show in the nation, with a musical component headlined by Chris Young. The Let Freedom Sing! fireworks display will begin at 9.30 p.m. with accompaniment from the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and centred around the Cumberland River.

Washington, DC - A Capitol Fourth and July 4th Fireworks

There will be plenty happening in Washington DC this year, including the parade down Constitution Avenue. If you’re planning on going to the National Mall, expect road closures, parking restrictions and security screenings - all of which will cause delays.

Security will be strict with various checkpoints to pass through to get to parts of the Mall, coolers, backpacks, packages etc will be subject to inspection. The 43rd annual A Capitol Fourth” Concert will air live from the West Front of the United States Capitol.

Gates will open to the public at 3 p.m. and the concert begins at 8 p.m. followed by a dazzling firework display, launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which will begin after 9:00 p.m.
