How to get $500 worth of groceries for only $50: This is the ‘Cart With a Heart’ food donation program
It almost seems like it’s too good to be true, but World Harvest in central LA provides a two-week supply of food for a family of five for just $50.
Times have been tough for many around the nation, with prices soaring once again families are struggling to put food on the table. One organization is doing their part to make sure that no one goes hungry while reducing food waste at the same time.
World Harvest, located on the corner of Arlington Ave. and Venice Blvd. in central Los Angeles, has a deal that seems almost too good to be true. The food bank offers people to participate in its ‘Cart With a Heart’ food donation program, which with a $50 donation to the charity, participants will get a cart filled with $500 worth of fresh, nutritious groceries. These carts can feed a family of five for two weeks.
What comes in World Harvest’s ‘Cart With a Heart’
The charity partners with a number of major grocery retailers to ensure that good food does not go to waste, providing them with a constant supply of varied items. This means that each day’s carts are different.
You will be provided with sources of protein like meat, beans and tofu, as well as breads and grains. The food bank offers a large selection of fruits and vegetables that you can choose from like a buffet. There are also snacks and beverages available and household essentials.

FOX 11 Good Day LA anchor Brooke Thomas showed viewers around the World Harvest food bank on her Instagram account. She shared that after five $50 donations, the sixth is free.
For those who cannot scrape together $50, Thomas mentioned that they can also donate four hours of their time working in the food bank.
