IHOP enters the value menu wars: here’s what you can get for $6

The breakfast chain has added a permanent low-cost menu to compete with rivals, but not all diners will pay the same price.

Do you often have to eat out in the morning? Do you worry about how much that breakfast bill is going to be? Well, IHOP’s latest move may give you a reason to smile.

What is IHOP’s new breakfast offer?

On Monday, September 15, IHOP introduced its first-ever everyday value menu, a collection of four full breakfast meals for just $6 at most participating restaurants. In some markets, the cost is $7, a nod to regional price pressures. Either way, it marks the chain’s strongest pitch yet to diners who have been forced to grow more selective about spending, as the richest get richer and the gap widens.

“At IHOP, we believe great food should be accessible to everyone, every day,” said Lawrence Kim, the company’s president, in announcing the new offer.

The value menu is available daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and includes four choices:

  • Breakfast Faves Combo: Two buttermilk pancakes, two eggs, and your choice of two bacon strips or two pork sausage links
  • Ham & Cheese Omelette: Ham, jack and cheddar cheeses topped with a white cheese sauce, served with two pancakes
  • French Toast Faves Combo: A slice of French toast, plus two eggs and two bacon strips or sausage links
  • House Scramble: Eggs mixed with chopped hickory-smoked bacon, jack and cheddar cheese, with crispy hash browns on the side

Each plate is intended to feel like a complete breakfast, not just a bargain add-on. Salivating yet? I am.

Why is IHOP betting on value now?

The company operates more than 1,700 restaurants worldwide, with most US locations drawing heavily from households earning under $75,000. IHOP says that group has been particularly sensitive to inflation.

“Guests are more value conscious than ever,” Kim noted, describing the menu as a direct response to changing expectations, without mentioning the current administrations economic policy. With competitors rolling out budget-friendly deals of their own, IHOP hopes its new line will reassure regulars who might otherwise skip a sit-down breakfast.

For diners, the appeal is simple: a familiar meal at a predictable, low price, seven days a week. Whether that’s enough to lure cost-conscious customers away from rival chains remains to be seen.
