Update:

It’s impossible to please everyone and even McDonald’s, the biggest fast food chain in the western world, can sometimes struggle to please. McDs has had its fair share of hits and misses over the years and regularly pulls items from its menu - even ones which sold well.

The most popular item at the golden arches is the iconic Big Mac, a firm favorite since it was introduced in 1968, but what about the meals that failed to take off or for some reason or another. Let’s take a look at the menu items that don’t get ordered very much.

Hot Tea

McDonald’s take their coffee very seriously instead and on the whole, it’s excellent. It’s a shame the same can’t be said for their tea. Priced at $1.89, which is reasonable enough, but it’s just tasteless. The typical tea leaves in a bag on a string, dunked into a paper cup of hot water. The longer you leave it to steep, the worse it gets. It’s the least-ordered item on the menu.

McCafé Hot Chocolate

What better way to warm you up on a chilly morning than sipping a warm, delicious cup of hot chocolate? Surprisingly, McDonald’s version isn’t a hit with customers. More than likely, it just can’t compete with the range of coffees, espressos, lattes, cappuccinos, and seasonal specialties which are more popular.

Fruit & Maple Oatmeal

Packed with nutrients and weighing at around 320 calories, the Fruit & Maple Oatmeal, introduced in 2011, has to be one of the healthiest items on McDonald’s menu. Whole-grain oats topped with fresh apple slices, blueberries, raisins, and a dollop of light cream... sounds tasty enough, and some people love it but most go for other more appetizing breakfast options such as the timeless McMuffin.

Hotcakes

A staple for many years at the golden arches - three buttermilk pancakes, a pat of real butter, and maple syrup. In reality, not only are they are one of the unhealthiest breakfast options (fat, sugar, carbs and 600 calories), some customers complain that they taste rubbery.

Filet-O-Fish

First rolled out in 1962, to appeal to meat-abstaining churchgoers during Lent, the Filet-O-Fish is now a basic on menus all over the world. It has its fans - in fact, it’s a favorite of US president Donald Trump but apparently, he’s one of the minority who head straight for this long sandwich filled with crispy breaded Alaska pollock and tangy tartar sauce. The connoisseurs’ choice, around 75 million are sold per year.
