In which state will the next Republican primary election be held?

Donald Trump’s march to the election in November is all but certain despite challenger Nikki Haley refusing to back down.

On 27 February, voters in Michigan will head to the polls to cast their ballots in the Republican primaries. The process will determine how the state’s 55 delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated.

Former president Donald Trump currently leads the couple of Republican hopefuls and is expected to stretch his advantage further. At present he has 110 delegates, followed by Nikki Haley with 20. If polling is to be believed, Trump has nearly 79% of the vote in Michigan with Haley languishing on 21.8%.

Haley needed a good result in her home state of South Carolina to inspire any belief in a comeback, though it failed to materialise. She is adamant she will not pull out until the end of Super Tuesday on 5 March.

I’m not giving up this fight when a majority of Americans disapprove of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden,” she said. “I said earlier this week that, no matter what happens in South Carolina, I would continue to run for president.”

Donald Trump’s hold of the Republican party looks absolute.

“She just can’t get herself to get out,” Donald Trump said about his opponent. “If she was doing well, I’d understand it. But she’s doing very poorly.”

Regardless of their respective chances of being the candidate to face off against Joe Biden, the two will do battle again in Michigan tonight.

Though the primary is today, the majority of delegates will be given out on 2 March due to a split in the local party.

How to register to vote in Michigan

In Michigan’s open primary, voters are not required to declare a party affiliation before they vote, meaning that they can choose to vote in either the Democratic or Republican primary, regardless of their own party affiliation.

Michigan citizens can register to vote in person at their clerk’s office with proof of residency now through 8 p.m. on Election Day,” reported the Department of State late last week as early voting got underway.

You can use this tool to find the clerk’s office closest to you.
