Is Amazon down? This is what we know about the internet outage and why AWS isn’t working
A wide tech outage has struck a number of companies, with reports coming in across the board.

Early on Monday morning, reports emerged from web users struggling to use various websites and applications, with Amazon, Duolingo Snapchat seeing heightened levels of user complaints.
The website DownDetector, which monitors these sorts of things, was indeed working, publishing the ever-increasing number of users who were reporting on websites and apps going down across the board.
Within just minutes of the outage, Snapchat, Zoom, Roblox, Clash Royale, Slack, and PokemonGo (among many others) were all experiencing problems.
It appears that the root cause of the problem is an issue with Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is the complex cloud computing division which underpins millions of large companies’ websites and platforms. AWS said in a statement that they have seen “increased error rates and latencies for multiple AWS Services in the US-EAST-1 Region” and that engineers are “immediately engaged and are actively working on both mitigating the issue, and fully understanding the root cause.”
Banks also appear to be down, including Halifax, Lloyds and the Bank of Scotland.
