Isabel Viña, doctor: “We should avoid drinking bottled water, as plastic contains hormone disruptors”

Update:

In the field of health, water has always been regarded as one of our greatest allies. It not only keeps us hydrated but also helps transport nutrients, aids digestion and allows the body to eliminate toxins and waste, among many other vital processes.

However, not everything connected to water is equally healthy. That was the warning delivered by Isabel Viña during her appearance on The Wild Project, the podcast hosted and produced by Jordi Wild. There, the physician and content creator spoke about the potential dangers of bottled water, arguing that plastic acts as a hormone disruptor that can be harmful to the body.

“Anything made of plastic is going to contain hormone disruptors, and we should avoid plastic bottled water,” the health professional said. In response, Wild showed keen interest in alternatives to bottled water: “There are certain brands that sell water in glass bottles, and there’s also tap water,” he noted.

“Is tap water better than bottled water?” Wild pressed. “Unless you live somewhere without drinkable water… I drink tap water,” Viña replied, before addressing concerns about limescale: “In the end, among other things, it’s calcium. We worry a lot about calcium in food, and hard water is a source of calcium.”

To conclude, the content creator explained that bottled water – and the hormone disruptors it may contain – can be particularly problematic for people who want to become parents or for those who simply want to maintain balanced hormone levels.

Users push back against the expert’s opinion

The video, which has racked up hundreds of thousands of views, around 20,000 likes and some 400 comments, has drawn the attention of dozens of users who did not hesitate to voice their disagreement with Viña’s claims on The Wild Project.

“Water with a lot of limescale causes kidney stones,” “Tap water is transported through plastic pipes,” “In Alicante, if you drink tap water you’ll lose your kidneys in two years,” and “I refuse to drink tap water” are just some of the reactions that can be read in the comments.
